If you’ve already missed paying your rent, there are several things you can do to recover:

  • To avoid eviction and be prepared if your landlord takes action, take a moment to understand the process, what you need to do, and when you need to make payments.

  • Your landlord probably has a rule about giving extra time for payments. Try asking them about it.

  • Landlords often want to keep tenants, and many will be understanding. Consider:

    • What's the most you can pay now?

    • What payment plan suits you?

Use the templates below to talk to your landlord about it.

Bi-Weekly Payment Plan (click - good for paydays)

Monthly Payment Plan (click - good for fixed incomes)

  • Think about your 'Plan A'—something you can do in the next 24 hours to help your money situation, like:

    • Check your budget for partial payments or a plan

    • Talk to your landlord about a payment plan

    • Consider getting a roommate

    • Ask friends and family for support, even if it's not money

For 'Plan B,' do something within a week, like:

    • Apply for more jobs or benefits

    • Check with service providers about delaying payments

    • Talk to your boss about a raise or more hours

    • Find info on food banks or free services for savings

If you've tried everything and still get a 3-day notice, 'Plan C' is applying to Jesse Tree. Apply online at www.jessetreeidaho.org/apply (click), call/text the Tenant Resource Center at 208-383-9486, or visit our office at 1121 W Miller St, Boise, ID.
