Legacy Giving

Leave a Lasting Legacy with Jesse Tree

Every family deserves a safe and stable home. By including Jesse Tree in your estate plans, you can help ensure that families across the Treasure Valley maintain that stability they deserve.

A legacy gift or bequest is one of the most meaningful ways to extend your impact. It costs nothing today, and you remain in full control of your assets throughout your lifetime.

Legacy gifts allow donors to make a transformational contribution to Jesse Tree's mission. Whether you've supported us for years or are just learning about our work, a planned gift is a powerful way to say: this matters.

Why Leave a Legacy Gift?

Including Jesse Tree in your estate planning can be very simple. There are many ways to optimize your gift in support of our mission.  You can direct a specific dollar amount, a percentage of an asset through beneficiary designations, or employ language in your will or trust to direct a gift.

How It Works

Create a Legacy with beneficiary designations

In addition to a will or trust, you may also name Jesse Tree as a beneficiary of:

  1. A retirement account (IRA, 401(k), or 403(b))

  2. A life insurance policy

  3. A donor-advised fund

  4. A bank or investment account (through a “transfer on death”or “payable on death” designation)

These designations are typically established directly through your financial institution or insurance provider and do not require changes to your will.

If you’re considering a legacy gift or bequest, we would be happy to sit down and chat with you about any questions you may have. Please contact us at donations@jessetreeidaho.org for any inquiries.

Types of Gifts

Bequests through wills and estate plans:

The most common form of legacy giving is bequests of designated sums of money, assets, or a percentage of an estate left to a nonprofit in a donor’s will. These gifts can be given for general purposes or to fund specific areas within the organization.

Donor-advised funds:

A donor-advised fund is a charitable investment account that a donor can create and use to support causes they care about past their lifetime and specify what the money they’ve donated funds.

Endowments:

Endowments are invested funds from which a nonprofit can use the interest accrued while preserving the principal sum. Donors can give to term endowments that are set up to be invested until the donors passes and then used to fund specific programs or provide general support.

Charitable gift annuities:

A charitable gift annuity is a contract where a donor makes a gift to a nonprofit in exchange for a fixed sum each year for life. After the donor passes, the remaining balance goes to the organization.

Charitable remainder trusts:

A charitable remainder trust allows a donor to donate assets to a trust, which then provides a trustee with an annual payment. At the end of the trust’s term, the remainder goes to the nonprofit beneficiary.

Beneficiaries:

Similar to gifts of life insurance, donors can choose to make a nonprofit a beneficiary on other accounts, such as their retirement fund.

Gifts of life insurance:

A gift of life insurance is when a donor names an organization as the beneficiary of an insurance policy or transfers ownership of the policy to the charity.
