Client Story: Erika

Erika and her four children live in a two-bedroom apartment. As a single parent and sole earner for the family, Erika must work full-time to provide for herself and her children. However, when an unexpected family emergency left Erika needing to reduce her hours, she quickly found that she could not pay rent while also providing the basic necessities for her children.

A pregnant mother kneels while her young son kisses her stomach through her floor length dress.

Although the family helps provide financial support when they can, the cost of rent outpaced what they could provide. Falling behind on rent left Erika turning to Jesse Tree. Erika’s case manager quickly got in contact with Erika and her landlord, helping to discuss a payment plan to get Erika caught up on rent.

Since the family emergency was temporary, Erika was confident that she would be able to pay her rent once she returned to her full-time hours at work. Jesse Tree was able to pay her past due rent and connect Erika with much needed resources like food pantry information and connections to utility assistance. Thanks to Jesse Tree’s help, Erika and her children remain safely housed and able to thrive.
