Client Story: Janet
Janet knows how to roll with the punches well. When she and her long-term partner separated, she knew that she would be the sole caregiver to her 10 year old child with developmental disabilities. Janet wanted to stay in Idaho, where she had been raised and where she wanted to raise her child. This would be a new challenge, but one Janet took on happily. It would be a change to connect more with her child and begin a new chapter in life in Boise.
Originally, Janet was working part-time. This was enough to support her family when supplemented by her partner’s income, but without that, she had to find a way to supplement her earnings. In addition to this, Janet lost two weeks of income due to being ill. Luckily, she was quickly offered a full-time position at her current employer after her health improved, with the ability to take on overtime work. The new position offered an increase in pay, but by this point, Janet had already fallen behind on rent.

Although things were improving, Janet’s owed rent was still rising due to late fees. Even with overtime pay and family support, she wouldn’t have been able to catch up to what was owed on her rental ledger.
This is when Janet reached out to Jesse Tree. Janet was connected with her case manager who helped Janet navigate services that would be available for her and her child. Jesse Tree was able to provide grocery gift cards and vouchers for clothing to make sure the pair had their basic needs taken care of. After reaching out to Janet’s landlord, her case manager was able to pay what was owed in rental arrears. As a result, Janet and her child remain safely housed today, able to focus on the future ahead.
